A lighting concept and design for Gothenburg's most distinctive square, Götaplatsen, provides the framework for the most important cultural landmarks in Gothenburg: the National Museum, Art Center, Concert Hall and City Theatre, Central Library and Statue of Poseidon. The square lies high amongst it’s urban areas and marks the end of the city's main shopping street.

 

The main aim of the project was to create a greater sense of security for the people who frequent the area. An uncomplicated and well-composed lighting scheme resulted in a safe urban space that preserves a special, dark, Nordic identity.

 

The project won the Swedish Lighting Award 2011 (Svenska Ljuspriset) for Ramboll Lighting, whilst I was Head of Lighting Design.
