Re-platforming the
Amazon corporate site
Overview
The Amazon site needs to showcase the incredible people, meaningful, valuable work. The current CMS has limited functionality, there needs to be a streamlined workflow for creating content on a consistent basis. Visual needs to personifying the company, exemplifying the pillars, and ultimately tell the story and tell it internationally.

The Audience
Existing Amazon employees, potential prospects, buyers and sellers on Amazon.

My Role
Lead and lone designer, worked on discovery, IA, UI, wireframes, and visual design for the responsive website utilizing templates for sections and asset pages.

The Scope
Timeline 3 months for the US launch, international 1 month later. Design needed to start delivering to the development team in 1 month, utilizing modules / components from the DayOne project to keep “new” custom design work to a minimum. Design limitations of the module / container design to allow flexibility in page structure.

The Process
• Discovery research
• Navigation and IA explorations
• Wireframes of key templates (desktop and mobile)
• Visual design (weekly design drops, with refinements and feedback in subsequent weeks)
• Navigation, lede “search idea” and visual scrolling prototypes showcasing motion
  and interactivity
• Visual QA
• Design translations for localization

Outcomes and Lessons
The site launched on time with Bezos approval. Discoverability increased, telling a better story to the audience. The overall process to write new stories improved exponentially with a streamlined workflow. As a result, content remains fresh and with a building block template structure, new pages can be built by the Amazon team seamlessly, without additional development needs. As with many / all projects we all wish we had more time.
