Traveling to new locations is an exciting part of life, yet the actual process is despised by most. Clearly, traveling is an imperfect process that can be stressful for any person, but traveling with an infant is particularly taxing. For my thesis, I sought to make this process easier for parents and infants alike.
Koala Karrier is a combination wearable carrier and seating assistant. Through paper prototype and styrene iterations, I developed a form that is both structural and sophisticated. I rejected the more dominant approach that plastic has to be the standard material in favor of a form is cleverly die-cut from sustainable wool felt and sewn together in a way that cradles the child. A minimal of strapping allows my concept to easily transition from carrier to chair mode while out in public.
Parents believe that they need a car seat, stroller, and baby carrier to go about daily life with an infant in public. They endure the burden of these devices believing that it is the only option. The Koala Karrier proves that this notion has been flawed.
