In Hungary, there are currently around 200,000 stray dogs that are being treated inhumanely.  Hungary Hearts Dog Rescue, a charitable organisation, tries to help these abused and abandoned dogs as much as they can.  By rescuing them from the streets and shelters, they attempt to give the dogs a chance of a better life by finding a new home for them here in the UK.  Unfortunately, they cannot save all of the dogs and those that do not get rescued, often end their days in shelters that are cramped and overloaded with dogs. More fortunate dogs are taken in to private foster homes, where the good will of committed individuals offers the dogs a lifeline of hope.  In the worst cases, the majority of dogs are sent to dog pounds called ‘killing stations’ where the conditions are appalling.  Here they wait to be put down – but the reality is, many die terrified hungry and in pain before this.
