DESIGNER-
The designer I chose to analyse was James
Dyson. He is the one who started Dyson Ltd.
which is famous for their vacuumers en hairdryers.

FASE I: ANALYSING
During this fase we had to analyse the design philosophy from a specific designer, mine was James Dyson. When I studied his designs and products I noticed that a lot of features and elements returned troughout his products.
Here are some of his products:
DYSON Bladeless air cooler
DYSON Fanless hair dryer
These products have the same layout and I focussed my design very much on these products. The buttons, ventilation and function is all transfered between these 2 products. I would replicate and use the same style for my concept but also the color scheme and accents.
FASE II: CONCEPT GENERATION AND PROTOTYPING
In this fase I made a lot of sketches and iterations on my concepts, that is why I find this fase very critical. During this fase you can experiment with features, colors, finishes and different materials, the feel with your product enlarges immensly when you create prototypes and you get to see the problems or shortcomings in your design. Much more than just sketches on paper.
In the end I concluded this fase with a general design which I refined to the final product which I would present to the jury.
In these photo's you can see the journey the design has made, from a very fast mockup to a refined design that is very thought out. The colors and features are copied from Dyson's design and proportions are redefined both on the cloud device and on the controller.
FASE III: FINALISING AND PRESENTATION
This is not really a fase but it is still a important step as during this fase your concept gets reviewed by other people that might see things different. Nevertheless you still need to convince them about your product.
This model is completed with a cable and
functioning buttons. The dim function on the controller also works. In Dysons design the function is always higlighted, in my product I did this trough aluminium parts around or in the functioning part. On the cloud device this is the ventilation function, and on the controller it is the button.
