This calendar was designed for Practicon's educational division. Practicon has exclusive rights to sell Frasaco brand products which are either typodonts, models or mannequin simulation systems. They are made specifically for students in the dental field to practice on. I imagine it's much less scary to practice on a mannequin than a live person. The mannequin set-ups add a more realistic environment for students to work with.
One of Practicon's reps in the education divisions department came to me with this idea of a calendar. He wanted to send this to certain accounts the reps had as a "thank you" gift. Thinking it was a brilliantly creepy idea, I, of course, loved it and ran with it. We purchased stock photos for each month and I proceeded to photograph these heads in various positions with different lighting to match the images we purchased. After that, I photoshopped the heads into the photos, added the photos into the layout I put together and you see the outcome.
Turns out these were a huge hit with the recipiants, and one of our calendars was scanned in and put on reddit. From that point on, we started receiving call after call from customers wanting to buy these! Higher ups at Practicon made a fast decision to do so and they sold like mad! The calendar was featured on the front page of reddit, was mentioned on gawker and a few other online blogs, such as this one. It was labeled one of the "Top Creepy Christmas Gifts." It got so much exposure that we received a phone call from a rep with Anderson Cooper live wanting to showcase these on an episode! It was eventually aired for a few seconds on Anderson's First 15 on January 3. You can see the First 15 clip here.
