James Pawelczyk's profile

JMU Football Equipment Truck

After the Alliance of American Football (AAF) went down, I reached out to everyone I knew in hopes of landing some freelance opportunities in the sports world in order to make ends meet. James Madison University is one of the amazing organizations that I've had the privilege to work with in that time, and I was honored with the task of designing the exterior wrap of their football equipment truck. It was my very first attempt at something of this magnitude and I'm extremely happy with how it turned out!

PRELIMINARY MOCK-UPS:
The university wanted a classic design showcasing their school colors, their new stadium turf, and their two national championship trophies. Their instruction to me: design an entire semi-truck without using any players or uniforms (helmets were allowed, however). While this did prove difficult, I was up for the challenge. I stretched my parameters as far as I could, making a bold choice in typography behind the truck's cabin area (seen below in the "Final Product" section) as well as having the "Duke Dog" logo appear to be coming off the truck to convey a "larger than life" look for their brand.
THE FINAL PRODUCT:
This updated yet timeless design (affectionately named "Diesel Duke") followed the JMU football team around the country for their road trips during their historic run to the 2020 FCS National Championship in Frisco, TX!
