2009 | Hotel on the River Douro, Porto, Portugal

The project is structured like a snake along the banks of the Douro River, near the edge of the quarry, in the bend generated by the river itself.
The hotel spaces are on two levels:
• a lower one, public, with catering, such as the lounge and the restaurant, and entertainment venues, such as the spa and pool area;
• a higher one, private, where hotel rooms are located.
The public space between the top lev- el of the rooms and the socket at the base of the public level, develops into a sort of path that compresses and expands, through different geometries to accommodate different functions.
These spaces are further characterized by pools with natural forms, as the water element in the project is particularly important, as associ- ated with the idea of comfort and well-being.
The distinction between public space and private space is also stressed by the different facing of each floors:
the ground floor spaces are opened facing towards the river, while the rooms are facing the rocky mountain.
