Interstellar inspired recreation of a Black Hole, completely made inside Autodesk Maya from scratch, and rendered with Solid Angle Arnold.

Black Holes were theoretical predictions of Albert Einstein's theory of General Relativity until a real picture was released on 10th April 2019.

Black Holes are usually surrounded by an accretion disk, which is a swirling disk of hot gases and plasma. According to General Relativity, immensely dense objects such as Black Holes warp the space around it making light follow curved trajectories, unlike the straight paths in normal trajectories. As a result the part of the accretion disk behind the black hole is seen as a bulging circle.

The accretion disk was created using Maya Fluids, and the gravitational lensing was simulated by using a set of circular planes that iteratively refract the rays shot by the camera.
