A sustainability report is a snapshot. Avery Dennison had just hired it’s sustainability chief and they were in the process of defining the material issues facing their business and beginning to collect data. They felt they had very little to communicate. But in sustainability communications, a credible process is just as important as the results would be the following year. We encouraged them to make a frank, clear statement that would be something that would set the stage for subsequent reports.
