One of my goals as a designer is to design a book about the City of Manila that I know. The cover is inspired by the one of the common points of the city's visual vernacular—riso prints with bold typefaces in red and yellow aptly partnered with shadows. Manila is also flooded (pun unintended) with mayoral campaign posters, often tagged with the slogan "Forward Forever, Backward Never" and "Sulong Maynila!" I've always wondered what did it actually mean during afternoon commutes back in high school. What is Manila's idea of progress?
