No cats were harmed in this process! My cats walk around on everything, so I decided to turn on the scanner while one of my cats (this is Chicken) walked around. She did not stare directly at the light. I was really careful to only turn it on when she was not looking at it. I love my cats and don't want to submit them to any undue harm. Here's what happened on the scanner with Chicken that day.
