I’m happy to show you this beautiful project I was working on with my friend Tob Gebert and Demodern team for four months. I was creating the 3D-models in four different light situations, materials, and so on. Tob brought the interior to life in Unity Engine.
Ikea Immerse VR App lets a person experiment with the interior as much as he or she wants. It allows you to choose different materials and colours for the furniture, different lighting, set the mood and add a personal touch to the interior.
The trickiest part of the project was connected not with 3D creation, but with light baking in Unity. This engine has its own light sources which do not allow you to work efficiently with lighting. To solve the problem and get the best results, we decided to use 3ds Max and Vray to make light baking.
Tob developed a tool that allowed us to use 32bit exr. images which I’d rendered with Vray and place them to the objects in Unity scene. There were 126 different lightmaps and 4 different light situations.
Another interesting part of the project was connected with the necessity to work with electrical lights – a person who uses the application can switch them on and off.
I’m honoured to work with Tob Gebert and Demodern team and happy to get this unique chance to learn so much. I also would like to thank Tobias Soffner – our Project Manager, outstanding specialist and my dear colleague.
