An English investor, business magnate, and philanthropist, Sir Richard Branson is also a best-selling author and an avid reader. In connection with World Book Day, Richard Branson has listed the top 65 books that he thinks everyone should read during his or her lifetime. One of his recommendations is a classic children’s book entitled, Where the Wild Things Are, by Maurice Sendak, published in 1963.

Mr. Sendak’s 40-page book is a story about a young boy named Max who, after his mom sends him to bed without supper, imagines a world where he is a king. There, he encounters different creatures and beasts called wild things and rules over them. However, after all of his amazing adventures, Max starts to feel lonely and returns to his bedroom, where, surprisingly, he finds his hot supper waiting for him.

With over 19 million copies sold worldwide, the children’s book has been adapted into a short animated film, an opera, and a live-action feature-length film.
