Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Students Help People

A distinguished hematologist and oncologist in New Jersey, Kenneth D. Nahum, DO, has more than 30 years of experience in the medical field. Voted a Top Doctor four times by New Jersey Monthly Magazine, Dr. Kenneth D. Nahum treats patients at Regional Cancer Care Associates, LLC, and teaches at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

For more than 25 years, students at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School have volunteered for the institution’s Homeless and Indigent Population Health Outreach Project (HIPHOP). In addition to being a student-directed community service project, HIPHOP serves as an educational program for medical students.

Through the program, students are trained to perform community outreach, promote health through preventive education, and provide basic medical care to people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Students perform services such as taking blood pressure at free health fairs or churches, leading preventive medicine educational workshops, treating patients at the Eric B. Chandler Health Center, and serving food at a local soup kitchen. Serving people in need is an important experience that stays with students beyond medical school.
