Gan Shan Station and Gan Shan West are two Asian cuisine restaurants among the favorite local dining experiences in Asheville. Our team at Long Live Simple worked with Patrick O'Cain, owner and chef, to craft custom icon sets and a combined logo design for both restaurants: "Gan Shan Group".
Our first project was to create custom Instagram Stories ‘highlights icons’ for both restaurant locations. After brainstorming possible categories together, we landed on icons representing food, drink, events, people, and specials. Shown are concepts for color coding each restaurant. The second custom icon set was specifically designed to highlight popular lunch and dinner items to be printed beside dishes listed on their menus, such as their famous pork or vegetable dumplings.
After concluding the icon design projects, the owner approached us again to design a logo for “Gan Shan Group”, a combined letterform and sub-mark to represent both Asheville-based restaurants. This started as a custom email signature created for the owner, inspired by the restaurants’ original logo designs. The newly combined Gan Shan Group logo was later adapted into apparel designs sold exclusively at both restaurant locations.
