I pretty much just started with drawing a pretty picture of a tree, and the concept seemed to grow from there. Simply, its a bird "f**ked off his tree".
The Indian Mynah bird is common in the city of Durban, and have the reputation of being a nuisence, much like the reputation of the pub locals.
