The Shoemaker
For many years now I have been repairing my shoes in a small local shop in Belgrade, and have always wanted to photograph this lively atmospheric interior and the shoemaker himself. Finally I got the courage to ask, and spent an hour there today, chatting and taking photos of his collection. Mr. Ivan has worked here for 25 years and has had many clients, some of them very famous. Many people have left him different collectables as a sign of gratitude and appreciation of his work - signed books, gnomes, shoes, art, calendars, signs and all sorts of other little things which give such charm to his little shop. He usually works with a cup of coffee and lights a cigarette from time to time. Next to his seat is a photo on the wall of him and his fluffy white cat - he had had the cat for fifteen years, and always mentions what an amazing cat it had been. These kind of corners are nowadays very rare everywhere, and such charismatic craftsmen are hard to find. Fortunately many people still bring their shoes, sandals and boots for alterations and repair and give them another chance to prolong their life span :)
After all, shoes and our feet are our main means of transportation, so we should take good care of them.
Photography-wise, I hope to photograph more people and their stories as well as do more street photos in 2019, since I do not do that too often.
