Love note to difference

When I'm in a new city, one of the things I'm immediately drawn to is the graphic design present there as it represents an oasis of familiarity in a mass of difference and it also offers a way to engage with a city.

In Seoul, I was immediately confronted with and drawn to the Hangul symbols and though I had no idea what they meant, I could see the value inherent in them being used not as a tool to make oral and written communication possible but, as a tool to form new drawings and patterns based off of their visual and aesthetic strength.

Love note to difference represents my fascination with the Hangul symbols and in a wider sense, represents the importance of accepting and appreciating all that is different and foreign to us because, in acceptance and appreciation, value can be seen and potentially new and significant ways of communicating can be developed.

Love note to difference was my contribution to the group exhibition "MMCA Report" at MMCA, Changdong, Seoul from 23.11 - 2.12.2018.
