NBC Sports Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics Logo System

After inspiring collaborations with NBC Sports on their 2016 Rio Olympics and 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, we were very honored at MOCEAN to be commissioned to develop the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Partnering with designer/illustrators Aya Kotake, Burke Miles, Stanley Ng and Jamie Givens we were challenged to design an identity that would capture the spirit and energy of Tokyo and inspire a sense of humanity, competition and movement for the Summer Games.

The unique challenge with these NBC Sports Olympic identities is to develop a deep custom and memorable look to the typography so that it can stand on its own when necessary. It was important to NBC Sports that, even if the NBC Peacock, the Olympic Rings and the Year were removed from the mark, American Audiences will know this is a NBC Sports' signature broadcast of the Games.
