In a 2012 article, Wired asked the question, "Can Etsy go pro without losing its soul?" The discussion surrounded the loosening restrictions placed on the "makers" featured on the website. Former guidelines restricted artisans and crafters from outsourcing their work, or hiring workers to increase their productivity. With these rules lifted, Etsy opened up the floodgates for mass produced "crafts" that were coming from factories rather than artists.

Expressing these concerns, I chose to pair tactile, handmade imagery with the static, monotone hands, suggesting the loss of the handmade element. Like an old television with a bad signal, the picture is unclear and hard to focus.
