Operation Smile works in multiple impoverished countries worldwide, including Ghana, where it established its first local medical mission at Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua in January 2018. Over the course of three days, Operation Smile empowered local medical professionals to provide 32 patients in Ghana with life-changing cleft surgeries at no charge. In addition to covering the cost of procedures, Operation Smile Ghana assisted patients and their families with transportation, food, water, and lodging expenses so they could receive the needed treatments.
Operation Smile Ghana has quickly become the largest provider of cleft palate and cleft lip surgeries in the country. The charity will continue organizing missions in remote areas to make cleft surgery more accessible and improve the health of Ghanaian communities.
