I started calligraphy in December 2012. I saw a clip online (not sure if it was John Mottishaw testing a modified Pilot Falcon or if it was Seb Lester doing a modern version of Gothic Capitals). Anyway, that convinced me to make myself a nib by sculpting a chisel tip on a brush handle and I made my first calligraphy letters (without knowing a thing about that). Never stopped ever since, though I had my moments when I was close to quitting. At the beginning of 2014 (after going through a basic calligraphy training on Foundational Hand with Ovidiu Hrin) I hosted my first calligraphy workshop and taught around 14 people everything I knew about Foundational Hand, in collaboration with my friend and fellow calligrapher Bine Scris, who taught them everything he knew about Gothic letters (mainly textura semiquadrata back then). That was the first workshop out of many - more than 30 workshops followed after that, probably more than 400 people passionate or simply interested by calligraphy (some of them turned it into a profession) united into the biggest community (in Romania) of people in love with calligraphy. Some of them still practice, others stopped, but I think that the reason that brought us together at the workshops in the first place stays the same - we love beautiful letters.
This is a collection of calligraphy and lettering I did over the years (some of them are done before 2015). Most of these works are practice sessions or client work. They are not perfect and they will probably never be, but I guess that's not the point. Or is it.
