Voice Activated Design

Voice first devices are on the rise. Voice interactive technology is being incorporated into all aspects of our life. We use voice interaction everyday whether it is with our cell phone, thermostat, television, computer or appliances. Now more than ever, understanding and designing for voice will be absolutely crucial. By 2022, 55% of all U.S. households will be using primarily voice- activated products. I think this shift is great for the advancement of our society. This increase in voice interaction moves technology towards ‘screenless’ design, decreasing the physical number of touchpoints between user and product, allowing for easier access to information. Some issues may arise with this new influx in technology. The ability for products to understand and interpret your voice technology may be an issue. Often times I find with the Bluetooth in my car, or Siri on my phone, I must repeat myself several times. Furthermore, how protected are we as far as security and privacy. As technology improves, these issues become less and less significant.
