Canadian Identity - Stamps Project

The Canada Post Stamp project was an exercise in using digital illustration skills to create a suite of stamps for Canada Post that reflect aspects of Canadian identity - be they landmarks, iconic animals or locations etc.

It should be noted that around the time this project was initiated, there was much publication in Canadian media outlets of the missing Indigenous Women's cases and the outcry for justice. It was fitting then, that the focus of the Canadian Identity project be based on cultures of Canada’s original cultures.

Four stamps were created, each depicting a theme or aspect of four Canadian Indigenous tribes. The Inuit, Cree, Algonquin and Iroquois tribes were chosen to reflect and represent this idea of true Canadian heritage, although there are many more that could in future be added to expand the concept.
Of the four stamp scenes, the Inuit illustration was taken into After Effects and animated to give it that sense of wonder when watching the Northern Lights.
