Skopje Brutal
Brutalism either you love it or you hate it.
Every peace worth calling architecture, is raising some kind of feelings, love or hatred, its not leaving you indifferent. In time when in Skopje are built hilariously ridiculous and insanely fake buildings, everybody forgets the part of the history, when Skopje hits its top in the architecture and construction, the brutalism. Unique objects that are left to witness for the incredible creativity of those architects.
Unique objects that witness for the impressiveness and power of one era, of one passed time.
Objects that before building of “the political” project “Skopje 2014” nobody was noticing them, nobody put too much attention about them. They were just standing there on their places, proud, safe and secure, as forceful constructions and it was highly unlikely for them to be exposed on some crime. Until that moment came and they were left vulnerable and exposed to crippling and horroric humiliation, by putting “baroque facades”. “Skopje 2014” according to me is just one badly designed, totally unnecessary, “political project” for which, me, as an artist am not competent to talk about.
I am here to speak up for the survived and frighten buildings that can not speak for them self, to hold forever the memory of the dialed and unreachable height of the brut beton that is not standing as proud as it used to. They stand in fear and uncertainness, not knowing which object will be next subjected to public humiliation, for public demasculinization. Powerful structures that are now targeted to be architortured.
This is a personal study of architectural photography based on instinctive and research reaction of the space, as well as negative and positive space trough dimensions and perspectives.
I am not focusing on explanatory approach of the brutalist philosophy.
I am focusing on catching one urbanistic ghost, on its last dying breath of one era whose remains are today brutally crippling.
It looks like this is one of the last attempts to imprint the last remaining, survived, fantastic brutalist objects in Skopje, on paper. I want to shot the wide palette of concretes and its integration with the light, embracing together in the atmospheric horror “baroque” surroundings.
Subtle confusion lies in me together with deep darkness.
The ideas of the big masters I want to present, in the most honorable way I can,
enhanced by my first contact with them and carefully observed perfect moment for a perfect shot. Unreachable volumes that I explore and focus, backgrounds and foregrounds, which deserve attention, scale and perspective that deviate the daily life, before it too late for that.Every day I find my self astounded from a new brutal appearance of some brutalist object.
What once was my town and home, today left me “homeless”. Because home is where you love to be.
