I took inspiration from crystals, geodes, mountains, and clouds. I studied the texture and colours of crystals and geodes. For mountains and clouds, I want the viewer to feel whimsical and dreamy. I also love curves and soft edges and definitely wanted it incorporated into the piece.
One of my favourite sections on this piece. It was a completely blank space in the paper and I simply let the brush do the work. Didn't think too hard, I just painted.

Coloured pencil, highlighters, and coloured pens were used to add texture and to emphasize the colours.
The multicoloured lines may look pretty but it was a pain to do
Had constantly remind myself to switch between colours while doing this section.
The lines and the round pieces of colour were the only parts penciled in.
The last two progress shot shows how a majority of the artwork had lots of empty space
It got concerning because I didn't want sections to look too similar. I wanted balance between the two colour palettes all over the page.
