A sequence of material and formal transformations by (JOSEPH ALBERS).

The fields of art and Design encompass such diverse activities as land and city planning, shelter design, product, advertising, and industrial design, interior and landscape design, design in apparel and personal appearance. And each type of design needs to be studied and understood carefully before it is implemented. As a consequence of the need to study the design, artists and designers tend to create a visual design and we called that an artwork.
In general, every work of art is based on a thinking out of the material. In light of that, a very famous designing teacher Joseph Albers advised his students to be truthful with materials (Horowitz. 2009). In my own eyes, this what Albers
wanted us to experience through our work with materials in any design we make. And if we asked ourselves about the reason behind Albers invitation to be truthful with materials, we might find that through our work with materials we will respect them (Horowitz. 2009). Moreover, Albers explained how we can respect the materials: “let the material suggest what it wants to do or to be, or whom it wants to be with”. Thus, we can see that Albers gave the material a sense of human rationality in term of making decisions. furthermore, Albers wanted us to find a relationship between the material and the form it will take. so that the result expresses something of the materials character. in Albers eyes, the path of effective work, lies in dialogue not in domination or by forcing the material to take a specific shape he said: “you don't just tell wood what you want to do, you try to hear what the wood wants to say”. Albers believed that each project needed to produce with as little waste as possible or no waste at all, he states that every element in the design had to participate in the whole.

As we can see that joseph Albers tend to show space in his work as well as representing a new vision and understanding of the city. According to (Malocolm, 1972) Space is an element which surrounds us. It is plastic in that it stretches to infinity, can be com- pressed into the most minute crevice and, yet, exists only as a concept. Space can be experienced two and three dimensionally and it is a vital part of visual design. And to do that I used some of the techniques for creating a surface and the material that I decided to work with is paper. Through my designing and my photographs, I tried to show the texture of the material I am using beside showing the space by pleating the paper and coiling it, not only that but also bending the paper was a really useful method in my own eyes to recognise what the paper needs to be or how the paper is going to be formed. I even used one of the techniques that Albers used with is cutting pleats and I have to say that this technique in particular helped me a lot to see how a simple paper can represent a neighbourhood or a building or shopping mall or a library. It should be noted that through my designing process used the effect of colour as well as the effect of darkness and lightness and shadow. According to (Malcolm, 1972) Colours have an effect on space. Colors that are warm and bright often appear to be closer to the picture plane, whereas cool or dull colors tend to recede into the distance. A surface covered with colors of closely related brightness tends to blend together.
