Leeds Digital Festival 2018
Promotional Campaign Direction
In March 2018 I was contacted by the Head of Marketing of the Leeds Digital Festival to produce their advertising and promotions throughout the course of the festival. This was a mammoth project that entailed two weeks of continuous videography, photography and animation.
Here's some of the animated projects I produced for their social media.
Logo animations were inspired by basic transformations of the standard logo. The most experimental was the 3D logo, which pushed the brand into (literal) new dimensions but worked as a nice element to throw onto other projects.
Ash Thorp's process for designing UI features came in handy for this overlay to use on the festival's aftermovie.
Examples of repeatable elements:
The Matrix-esque digital rain was created by automating a random character offset, using that character as a particle in a generator and applying an echo effect to create trails.
It went on to come in handy for later use.
Festivalgoers responded very well to the humour I embedded in my post. I remember waking up at 5am to create this vector brand-colour map of Leeds ahead of filming my first event at 9am.
I was particularly pleased with this closing post. Part IT-crowd inspired, part-inspired by the old Seabrook family computer when I was little.
Festival director Stuart was a great client to work with and loved the humour.
