Aim of the Project
This study highlights the feasibility of developing the heritage of al-Fustat through engaging the surrounding communities. Therefore, to achieve the best results for the development process, making the residents including the current hand-crafters in al-Fustat part of the development of the area is the main aim of this study.

Objectives
Supporting the local hand-crafters and the surrounding community to participate in the process of developing the heritage of al Fustat needs to focus on their potentials. This will be likely achieved through setting specific objectives including, transferring the know-how concerning the different aspects of the city like environmental and cultural aspects. The know-how can be transferred through providing relevant trainings for the residents of al-Fustat on the different available crafts, in addition, providing different methods of recycling the products to save the surrounding environment.

Form Follows Context as a design concept
Context can be described as the combination of one phenomenon/circumstance/fact/event with others for the creation of a whole; and as a result, In addition, it can be defined as the background, environment, framework, setting, or situation encircling an act or a circumstance.
The importance of context emerges when its ability to express and bring to light an item's contents, its inclusion within a combined unity, its definition and its formation and attainment of a meaning is the matter of discussion. According to Nesbitt (1996), the main belief behind contextualism is that it is the key to understand any knowledge it is associated with. Price (2008) also mentions the importance of contextualism by referring to philosophy and states that contextualism describes a compilation of perspectives in philosophy where actions, utterances and expressions are only meaningful when considered within their context.
As it is in many other fields, context also has a very important role to play in the field of architecture. It is one of the rare architectural concepts involved in all of the three main essential fields such as; architectural discourse, theory and architectural practice.
In the definition of context dualism, Beaver (2007), associates the concept with physical features of the proximal environment in addition to cultural and temporal features. Within contextual thought, design should be approached in a current and contemporary fashion. At the same time, the necessity of positioning new designs at a point between past and future design is highlighted.

Materials Development Research Center as Design Concept
As the dualism is reflected in the different aspects of al-Fustat city, the design had to follow this context, which is the duality in the architecture of the buildings in the location. The Materials development Research Center was selected as a design concept to reflect the idea of dualism in al-Fustat in shape.
