How to surprise the most fervent “Portistas" (portuguese club F.C.Porto’s supporters name) with a unique gift that matches their devotion for the team? To celebrate the start of the new season, our client Sport Zone, biggest portuguese sport’s retail chain, decided to reward a small group of clients, sending them an exclusive offer in first hand: the new season’s official shirt.
Our idea came from a powerful statement: supporters are an essential “player” in any team. Thus, “MVPortistas” were born, inspired in the expression Most Valuable Player, famous in NBA and commonly known as “MVP”, matched with club fan's nickname, “Portistas”. And those, the real “Portistas”, deserve to receive their gift in a special package, inspired in their favourite sport, branded with their club’s colors. A piece that they would proudly want to keep forever: a box for their new shirt, made of a real basketball.
The boxes were completely handmade from real balls. Firstly they were cut in half and the interior was filled with foam, leaving an empty space in one side, shaped specially to accommodate the shirt and a greeting card. Little magnets were embedded in both sides to make the closing system (maintaining both half parts closed together at the end) and interiors were finished with a PVC cover. Finally, balls were painted with club’s colors and logos were screen-printed in the surface.
