Some sketches to lay out the content and illustrations. I usually do rough sketches and concepts on paper and then do a layer in Illustrator with the brush tool where I refine it a bit more and place ideas on the page. I then draw over that layer and add detail as well as add color and refine the placement of illustrations. To add texture, I bring the whole thing into Photoshop and eventually place the image into the InDesign document. 

I had a lot of fun with this article and conveying different points within one main illustration on each page.
