Until we moved at the end of April this year I walked our dogs around Eagle Pond in Cotuit (Cape Cod MA) whenever possible. About three years ago I noticed that there was a square yellow box hanging under the bench about halfway down the path to the pond. In the box were four painted wooden cubes. Each cube was painted the same way with five sides in solid colors (red, magenta, teal, yellow, and blue). The sixth side was split into a black and a white triangle. The cubes were randomly arranged by people passing by. Initially they were within the box, but eventually the box detached from the bench, at which point the arrangements were on the bench itself. I photographed the bench on my walks and sometimes made my own arrangements.

Subsequently, I started making my own designs based on the four cubes. I got off to a late start for #36daysoftype05 due to moving house and studio, but part way through the alphabet, I decided to redo it so all was based on the interactive art bench cubes. I limited the structure of the characters to black & white triangles and red squares. There were many alternate characters, many of which can be seen on my instagram account.

The strong nor'easters of late 2017 and early 2018 took their toll on the forest surrounding Eagle Pond, and eventually a tree fell on the bench flattening the cubes.

Thank you again to 36daysoftype for keeping this project going. It is an inspiration and a challenge that is shared worldwide via Instagram.
