OVERVIEW
Legends of Orkney: The Red Sun (2015) is one of Alane Adams’ novels in the trilogy series “Legends of Orkney”. It is a fantasy-adventure series based on Norse mythology set in the Realms of Orkney. It tells the story of a 12-year-old boy named Sam Baron and his journey to rescue his friends who had been imprisoned and to halt the Red Sun from consuming the Land of Orkney. It is a Production Design for Animation based on one of Alane Adams’ novels in the trilogy series ”Legends of Orkney” in Partial Fulfillment of Requirements for the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree.
The Thesis collects the concept art behind the TV series, including sketches, production illustrations, storyboards, and many more. Everything was done in-house: from the illustrations, design elements, animation, and concept.

THE LOGOMARK
The Runic Inscriptions on cliff walls, rocks, and a building called ‘Viking runes’, which had 24 runes used by the Norse people from the 2nd to 9th century were the inspirations for the title card.
The design also incorporates elements of Norse art. I combined the enigmatic symbols made up of straight lines, rock texture to give the title an ancient feel.
THE SECRET LANGUAGE
The Old Norse word Rún means “secret”, and runes were thought of by Vikings as sacred secrets, and a way of interacting with both the living and the spirit world. Customized font for headlines and title logo. Consistently made to fit the title font.
THE CHARACTER ARISE
Different characters were created to fit the story and animation style. This is useful in creating key scenes and storyboards in order to ensure the consistency of every characters scale throughout the production.
A CALL FROM THE WILD
Creatures were also made alongside the characters.

I was also tasked to create environment design where my characters will go through.

Key scenes were also created to visualize the story.
The special print ads I designed for the launch.
I also designed the initial website for the launch.
An art book was also made and publish containing all the information, art, and design of the animated series.
