W.I.T.B
I got an offer last winter to make a poster for W.I.T.B (Who Is The Best) 2018. W.I.T.B is a dance competition which plays annually in South Korea. Client was representative of club "BROWN" in Hongik Univ. street where the it called as the best old skool tuned club in Korea. So I searched some like 80's Vans, or Adidas, CM posters which been lived with music history.
and here's my three sketches.
Actually he showed me really high respect and also he bought my prints before so I wanted to make this perfectly for gratitude. Anyways he chose 3rd one and I processed.
6 front people represent the genre of dance competition. Poppin, House, Krump, Hiphop, Rockin, Wackin.
But as I put more specification, I thought that there wouldn't be enough space for 6 people. Bcuz I wanted to show their character separately themselves. So I placed house dancer in back coz in my opinion, house dancers are like more.. some like.. free to all lol. And here goes my two modifications.
Can you recognize differences? lol. Now we have to proceed background, color, faces and Logo. From now on, will go fast and less comment.
I wanted to put some meaning to all stuffs even it's very small. (if you have interest on J.Dilla, maybe you can find some :)) At this moment, he wanted to make logo more visibly. Actually I think simple is the best and he agreed. But it's a poster so we also couldn't ignore vision of audiences. So I changed logo again. And also changed color, put some texture, gradation, and lines.
Almost done! Now I have Final check for margin and balances, and color tones.
