The Things We Loved and Lost
(UNIVERSITY PROJECT)
Brief: To create an artistic ideology based around 'the things we loved and lost'
Outcome: The concept of fashion dolls can be highly controversial due to their looks and the impression it gives young children of ‘beauty’ and ‘normality’. Barbie’s have always been made out to have a ‘perfect’ life however this is really just a distorted reality. I concluded that my project would be based around the idea of taking the ‘perfect life’ Barbie always had – being the ‘loved’ – and distorting this concept to what I now have knowledge of happening in the real world as I have grown up – being the ‘lost’. As I have grown older, Barbie’s have lost their sense of innocence and the life Barbie had me assuming existed, is really not so perfect. My final outcome was a series of mugshots of Barbie's lost innocence.
