CALDER CHAIR-Redesign of a design icon

CALDER CHAIR: reinterpretation of a design icon

This redesign of Gerrit Rietveld's (1888-1964) Red and Blue chair, is based on the idea of a non-static universal art, defended by Alexander Calder (1898-1976) with his mobiles. It differs from the original in its characteristic hanging, like a swing.
The colors of the chair are those used in Neoplasticism and those used by Calder in his mobiles. The reinterpretation includes a new color, white, not present in the original chair. Color black, the color of the structure in the Rietveld chair, gets more importance in the new design. Red and blue give color to the strings. Finally, color yellow, in the metallic bars, has a minimal presence in this design, as in the original.
The dimensions of the seat, backrest and inclination are maintained from the original chair. Also the width and height of the armrest, varying only its length. The original material is kept, painted wood, and nylon ropes and painted iron bars are added. The seat and back are joined by a threaded rod, and the end of the strings is finished with a metal stop.
