Smart Garments

At Athos I helped to develop athletic smart garments that provide people with live feedback to improve their performance while they work out.  I was the first person the founders hired after raising round A.  Our investors included Chamath Palihapitiya of Social Capital, Joe Lacob of the Golden State Warriors and True Ventures.

I am proud to say that over my 6 years at Athos, I had a hand in every one of our physical products.  Sometimes that meant getting my hands dirty (literally) experimenting with new materials for soft sensors.   Other times it meant assembling and leading a team of engineers to bring a new product from concept to deployment.
I worked with an amazing team: experts in everything from garment design, to data science, to sales.  Combining so many disparate fields was challenging at times.  Tolerances in mechanical engineering are usually well under 1 mm (0.04 inches); seam tolerances for garments are 6.5 mm 0.25 inches) if you pay extra.  Bridging these differences required patience, understanding, and creativity from everyone.

I worked on too many projects at Athos to go into detail here, but a short list includes:
 - Several generations of soft electromyography sensors
 - Multiple technologies for carrying analogue signals within the garments
 - Removable module with a battery, signal processing, and bluetooth (visible below his elbow in the image above)
 - Next generation products that I can't talk about
