THE  MODERN OUTDOORSMEN
Magazine Publishing / Visual Design
Role: Art Director

- Overview -
The mission of The Modern Outdoorsman is to publish a distinct men’s quarterly lifestyle magazine tailored for the lumbersexual. With a focus on Western Canada, we entertain and inform by highlighting current hipster trends in style, destinations, gears, gadgets and grub. Through striking visuals and compelling editorial, the purpose of our magazine is to re-introduce 20-40 year old males in Western Canada to the art of manliness.
- Process -
Our magazine is aiming for a clean and image oriented style. We wish to tell stories and deliver information and entertainment through high quality images. Bolded san-serif fonts are used on our magazine nameplate, titles, quotes to represent modern and masculine voice. The content, however, is in serif font aiming for a faster and easier read as well as creates contrast between hierarchy. The content throughout our magazine is in grayscale to help with the consistency, simplicity, and to increase reading pleasure, it also helps to highlight our distinct photography with the use of whitespace. We also created our very own beard icon for the end mark.
- Final Result -
