Working with children is not a stress-free task. We had the opportunity to work with the kids at the Overtown Youth Center, an organization founded by Alonzo Mourning, formerly with the Miami Heat. These children come from all sorts of family and personal situations. You would think they would not be the easiest group to work with, but that was quite the opposite. These children were amazing, largely due to the support and counseling they receive at this center. Kids are like sponges and this group definitely had an interest in the arts. They were more than happy to perform and demonstrate their talents. It is our experience that teens and young children have to trust the people they are working with. This sets the stage for developing a relationship based on communication. Once they understood why you needed something, chances were they were more willing to give it to you. This was our experience and it worked like a charm.
