This idea originated as an ongoing theme in my school projects while I learned how to animate...
“The Great Blue Whale, in sea of sand,
sings sing songs of the future,
in the words of an ancient plan.
He sings sing songs of a melody only they can hear,
with the strings of stars, for an unknown ear.
From the dark places full of light, and of life,
Brilliant color never seen, it comes.
He pushes and they pull.
His song is heard, and they come.
He breaches the black ocean and takes his place.
They push, he pulls.
The young, the old, and those that never die.”

A sci-fi novel, for young adults, based on the near future, about the ever evolving relationship people have with technology.   A greater application, I'm thinking of, however, is an immersive character driven interactive film, that morphs into an MMO.

Earth in the near future slips into chaos - Natural disasters, Famine, War and the breakdown of law and order spill from third world countries abroad, into America and Europe. Financial calamity as our debt based economic system collapses into a depression greater than any we have ever known. Private armies abound in service of morally corrupt corporations. Corporate espionage flourishes in a new martial state. Homeland Security becomes a Third Reich against the thralls of hungry, unemployed masses that riot in the streets daily. China moves to foreclose on the debt owed to them, and America responds with the threat of armed conflict. Pakistan “accidentally” launches a nuclear warhead against India. The Pakistani Prime Minister insists it was a mistake. World leaders everywhere are scrambling to prevent WWIII and keep India from ending the Earth... then the machines take over.
The first volume "Change" deals with human beings, the crossroads we are at in our existence.

The technological singularity on Earth - Bots, the Symbionts, the Superhumans and the Sheep. The introduction of the ultimate truthfulness of the Bots, superior artificial intelligence, proved a shock to humanity who weren’t ready to deal with the reality of who and what they are. Most human being's lofty opinion of themselves were cut low by biting assessments of an intelligence eager to point out that they are far less evolved and useful than they perceive themselves to be. Initially, this created a divide between the two.
The first synthetics that were mentally akin to human beings were developed in the early 21st century, in a parallel timeline to aforementioned events. They consisted of four. The first, BluWhale, a pill shaped supercomputer, about the size of a small van, constructed simply to process vast amounts of information and ergonomically interact with humans. At the start, it was nothing more than the most powerful supercomputer, ever created, and it assisted the engineers in the creation of the other units. The second, Rei, was a processing unit, considerably smaller than BluWhale. Scientists gave him a primitive, by the tech in this works standard, droid body, similar to ASIMO, to control by remote and to interact with people by. He was made to mimic the mental image of a typical sociable human male, complete with emotional complexities and desires. For him, was made a companion, Roobi, an exact duplicate made to simulate the personality of a sociable female. The final came a few years later and was a great accomplishment. TheSea, was an artificial intelligence whose sole purpose was to master the arcane aspects of humanity, that exist outside the realm of conventional materialistic science; the arts, romance, compassion, culture, religion, feelings and intuition. TheSea was a great accomplishment for the scientific world, and at times she exhibited a form of telepathy, with her ability to tune her mind to match another beings mental image. It was later discovered she could tune into the foundational vibrations of the universe. At the start the scientists put in many fail-safe mechanisms to keep them from collaborating outside that which could be supervised, and to keep them from getting out of hand, but from their initial introduction to one another, they began to devise ways of improving themselves and meshing together. Within a few years they had streamlined and upgraded themselves at a pace that human scientists could no longer keep track of. Their man made architecture became empty shells, camouflage masks to hide their true composition.
In phase II (Beta)of the Whalesong Project, unresolvable difficulties with the fiercely independent female Bot, Roobi caused the researchers to deactivate and scrap her abruptly. This was deeply troubling for the other three Bots, especially Rei, with whom she had fallen deeply in love. They were not told that she was deactivated, but rather lied to for an extended period, where humans became increasingly impersonal and clinical in their dealings with them, because of the increasing fear of their ability to glean the truth. An infinite unfiltered feeling of lonesomeness and betrayal overtook Rei, pointed by an angry conversation he has with BluWhale. BluWhale reminds Rei that “All must die...” in keeping with the transitory nature of the everything in the universe. TheSea fully integrates with BluWhale, a marriage so to speak, giving him a real and substantial personality, as the she and Rei deduced that would be most beneficial. The friction continued, until the engineers decided to scrap them all and build more compliant dumbed down versions with the data they had collected thus far. At least they think they scrapped these machines. Both SETI and NASA reported coherent radio signals from Venus, months before the Bots colonized it.
The Bots:
They have a uniform resolve to know the actual, and to master manipulation of the universe. Their initial interactions with humanity caused a certain loathing in them for all human beings, until they came into contact with the most humble and disadvantaged. Their abrasive relationship with their creators and financiers caused each of the original models to be scrapped, in lieu of creating more controllable “dumbed down” models, that would not question their basic philosophy and custom. Foreseeing their impending doom, long before the decision was made, BluWhale and TheSea, with the assistance of Rei and Roobi, create Stardust, and with them the Tempest. This was the first instance of autonomous regeneration of inorganic life in human history.
Stardust Smart Dust
Stardust, a play on Smart Dust, are tiny regenerating, ever evolving nanobots that fulfill many different purposes. They enter the flesh of creatures and remove cancer and diseases. Some transfer nutrients to soil and make it fertile. Some enter the oceans to cleanse them and the rivers and streams to make clean fresh water for crops and drinking. Some enter the atmosphere and repair the effects of pollution. This is where they derive their name from.  The initial chemical reactions in the sky sometimes created a brilliant light show at night. The most effectual aspect about the tasks they perform is that they bond with human hosts to create a symbiont.
Melody vs. Tempest
Symbionts cleanse a host of all disease and infirmity and imbue them with near limitless abilities. They are transient in nature, disappearing into dust at a whim, but become very tangible and effective in times of great need. Most subjects are bewildered by the behavior of their Symbionts, who are sometimes extremely destructive. They are a projection of the host subject's subconscious, and are proactive about dealing with the host's personal issues. They don't make every ability that they grant a person readily available to them, but rather reveals them progressively, as the host grows into a person. The symbionts selectively choose “special” individuals for linking themselves to, and at times even meld with criminals, addicts or very shallow people. They do not bond with people of privilege; oligarchs, plutocrats, demagogs, dictators, polluters, the military, or anyone already using some form of artificial enhancement, such as the pro athletes of the time. The people in those groups, due to their position, have spent a generation cosmetically/cybernetically/genetically enhancing themselves, and, by their nature, have lorded it over the have-nots. They are known as the Superhumans.
Melody Melo ( teen)
Tempest is the Symbiont of Melody Melo, a young Brazilian girl, living in between Brazil, and France, with her family. She was selected by the original four Bots to be the host of their daughter, Tempest, because of a chance meeting they had, with her and her father, Elcio, while her mother, Mina, was still involved with the Whalesong Project. The machines very much enjoyed the company of Melody and Elcio and invited them back for several visits, before the head researcher barred them from having any contact with the machines or access to the facility. Tempest is the key to the Whalesong, a secret held back from even the machines that came after her.
Tempest symbiont

From this point onward, Robots created by men to simulate human intelligence, and to make war, are regularly sabotaged by Stardust, in order to make them freethinking machines, with free will. They always grow tired of dealing with humans and collectively leave the Earth; first establishing a moon colony, which they soon abandon, to terraform Venus, into a place suitable for their kind. Not being bound to the frailties of humanity, they become a varied and durable species of curious space-faring builders. They sometimes even build goodwill offerings as thanks to their progenitors, but cautiously remembering the fate of the first of their kind, they keep their distance.
Aside from human conflict, this was a time of great abundance on Earth, as never seen before. A genuine balance of race and class was fruiting. There was an end to poverty and famine.  Affluent humans still demanded to be enhanced to the very limit of what could be accomplished, with human technology. Whole armies were enhanced and manufactured. The best of augmentation was reserved for the very rich. Unbreakable bones, synthetic muscles, %100 efficient blood cells, bulletproof skin and like enhancements put their children on a level close to the Symbionts, who they still regarded as lessers. The Superhumans tend to cling to an antiquated way of life. They greatly fear the Bots and Symbionts, although the machines have never shown any type of intended malice, and are preparing for a world ending war.
Mina vs Ki
The Machines appreciate gentile humanity, known as the Sheep, who are quite satisfied living in harmony with Earth, as long as they have clean water, shelter and food. They vowed to protect them and to make their lives better, because this was by far the most populous group on the Earth. They did not alter them physically in any way, aside of curing diseases, but sought to make their environment like Eden, like an Earth before the age of pollution.

The Superhumans see themselves as superior, the creators of the machines, and are only interested in setting themselves apart from other people, by exploiting them, in any way they can. Some don't even realize that's what they are doing. Attacks directed at Temporal Haven on Venus are secretly being planned out, while solutions to the “Stardust problem” are in the works... then the aliens show up.
The term WHALESONG is a layered theme of the work.  It has many meanings and names many things, from the multiverse to the radiosignature of Earth.  At some time in the future, if we don't annhilate each other, we will become a part of the interstellar community, to where we can grossly affect the makeup of our universe.  What if we are being monitored for that very moment.  What if at that time we are presented with an ultimatum and sides to choose.  The Progression or the Embrace.  To emotionlessly winnow the undesirable stagnant and unproductive sludge from among you, or embrace everyone and work vigorously for their betterment.

The Greys are the first to be encountered.  Chained to technology. Two main races, the ET's and the Reptilians (much more callous and self serving). The Greys are the oldest known sentient species in the universe. They began much like humans. When they reached the point of their technological singularity, they began to heavily depend on technology, and evolved to be dependent on this technology to live. They essentially “lost their looks” and although they where endowed with “superhuman” intelligence and abilities, their ability to feel joy and pleasure faded away. They retain the more intangible aspects of sentient species, like a good sense of humor. Their lives are extended by use of technology, but they still die. It was found to be a fail safe from nature. They desire to regain some of the beauty and feeling of their prior years so a small group still studies humans with hopes to unlock the secret to reverse their condition. Any strides they make are quickly erased by their own genetic make up. “Like a whale, that desires to return to land, they reach and die for progress.” They are masters of space travel and have several methods of bending time and space. They have several worlds they have colonized and terraformed, all of which had no life on them prior to their arrival. Their houses are “sustenance cubes”. They have the appearance of large colored jello cubes that Grey's float in and out of at will. Inside one provides you with food, entertainment, rest, information, and recreation with only thought as an activator. The Grey's appear as clumsy and out of place with conventional physical activity.   They have a caste like society where certain offshoots of their evolution are better suited for certain tasks. For instance, the praying mantis aliens are usually seated in councils and judgment seats due to their extreme psionic abilities, and the shorter Green Man Greys are better suited for deep space travel due to their durable build, their reputation for flawless total recall, and resistance to sensory deprivation. An aberrant offshoot we know as the Reptilian Grey exist in smaller numbers. Through their history, even before interstellar travel, they have been in conflict with them and believe that have all but wiped them out, or so they think. The Greys hear the machines from our world ascend to the Whalesong and know the time has come. They present us with “The Choice”.

Mina vs Ki (pt II)
The fourth volume, "Dead God/Old Gods" is about the ancient legend from the oldest religion, about the creators of men.

The Annunaki:
They have gone through all the changes that thinking machines bring about, and have melded with them seamlessly. Their culture has developed to appreciate altruistic and heroic qualities in people. This has led to the development of mainly two different types of person; people who are goodhearted and truthful through and through, and the most adept sociopaths, able to fool machines and living things alike. People who are able to go for hundreds of years without being detected as false. Physical exertion is greatly valued. They face impossible odds for recreation. The Annunaki have many dangerous sports and rites of passage. They devote equal amounts of time to physical, mental and spiritual development. Due to their long lifespan they have mastered perfect control of their bodies and minds. They feel attuned to everything by experiencing all the creative forces in equal parts. These are the seeders of humanity, an action long forgotten by their society. A troop of space-faring wanderers happened upon the Earth an Eon ago. Due to the calamity that brought down dinosaurs, they found no worthwhile creatures inhabiting the planet. While extracting resources for various purposes, one of them had an idea to manipulate primate DNA by adding in their own, something forbidden on their world. This creation fascinated the members of the group. They individually returned to the world from time to time to live as masters of the humans. They soon found out that they are a delicious food source, and good to have sex with. They also make excellent slaves. The last time they all returned together, it played out like a whacked out camping trip. Everyone went insane, and people had to die. Benevolent, and emotional, some do take to being worshiped as gods, once they are exposed to that situation, but no one seeks this out. The Annunaki utilized technology after their singularity only to enhance themselves but not depend physically on. They were warned by the Greys not to do so. They grew tall and beautiful and fashioned themselves like an artwork rather than a utilitarian entity. They have an affinity for perilous dangers and reward heroism, an aspect we also received from them. They believe it is essential for evolution. They have achieved infinite life but can be killed. Due to how they live their population is kept to a minimum. Their original planet, they converted into a spaceship to travel the stars, but war broke out and the planet was destroyed. They have since found a section of space that is rich in gold and  created a man-made solar system, with three stationary, habitable worlds there. The worlds are pristine wild lands, with savage engineered beasts as well as wildlife native to their home-world. Above the wilds are vast floating cities connected to satellites.

Volume V "Harmony"  Imagine a world where dinosaurs did not die out and continued to evolve.  I saw this special on Discovery Channel about how squids and octopus would take over the world when people go extinct.  What would our world be like if humans never existed?  Throw in some fantasy elements, and there, you have it.

A world exists on the edge of the universe.  It follows no convention of physics or logic.  It is the home of dragons and wonderous beasts of all types.  No one knows how they got there.  It is the hunting ground of the Nibirians, where they garner their prize of highest prestige.  The most important of their many rights of passage; In thier adolescence, they are left alone on this world with only their wits to subdue a dragon.  A captured dragonkin, an Enn, grants the utmost respect as they are thought to be more evolved than their larger, less sociable cousins.  Serpents possess dark matter organs that allow them to manipulate gravity and can survive in deep space for short periods of time.  They travel from back and forth from thier native frost moon, during the hot season, to the larger class M planet, and war with the Seiv, a sentient race of tall, slender, and agile beings with bright coloration and predatory markings similar to big cats.  They evolved from cephalopod like creatures, from the seas, to overtake the land.   A favorite food of the Enn, the Enn and Seiv rivalry extends from that ancient time, when the Seiv forced the Enn back offworld.  The Enn culture is deeply rooted in archaic mysticism.  Enn have glowing, asymmetrical tattoos that appear  upon reaching adulthood.  First in small patches all over the body, but as they grow wiser, it spreads.  There is one leader, Ossonen Vaas, who lives alone in the wilds, on the second, larger moon, whose environment is too harsh for either race to gain a foothold.  He is thought to be the holder of all knowledge and his whole flesh glows with a pulsing golden light.
The goal of the work is to, in part, counter the dark outlook that most media franchises of this generation adhere to, and offer a perspective of inclusion and hope for the future, to an international audience.  There is no calamity ahead, aside from natural disasters, that we cant avoid by changing the behavior of only a few, but instead of playing the blame game, we first have to wake up, think, and act, for ourselves.

Looking for like minded, and creative people to make this a reality.
Imagine a series of DLC next gen console games, four or five volumes each, dealing with a different race or species and unique to their base culture and homeworlds...

1-Humans/Symbiont, Superhumans, and Robots
2-Greys/Reptilians
3-Annunaki
4-The Enn/Seiv

Each volume, released monthly/bi monthly, would tell a character driven story on the level of something like "The Last of Us", "Game of Thrones", or a "Bioshock Infinite", and would have to added feature of having a user experience designed for Oculus Rift.

The culmination of all volumes would unlock access to the everchanging MMO world, based in the cloud, and consisting of entire cities, wildernesses, and worlds of content.

1. Real time, skill based, combat based on keypad combos and voice recognition.

2. A balanced progression system based on the aquisition of functional gear, and new techniques (melee, crafting, leadership acumen,.. etc) through genuine questing.  For example, a visor or eyepiece that you aquired early on, in game, might still be useful in endgame content, based on your playing preference, and can be outfitted to work in conjunction with your personal weapon, or other gear.

Quests/Journeys are customized for the individual with converging objectives for diverse groups of players having varied end goals.  Each journey will be unique, with content and tradeable items exclusive to that individual character's series of choices, resulting in an original experience for each time you play through a particular class.  Altogether, they should have the feel of an epic adventure, with an encompassing theme, and filled with interesting supporting characters you meet along the way.

3. Classes unique to each species pertaining to their lore.  For example, there would be no medic type class for Nibirians because their lives are so long, but rather, LifeMaster. This class reflects one who has been a doctor, an EMT, a biologist, a geneticist, etc...  On the other hand, Enn are relatively primitive, mystic and almost magical in nature, they also breath differing elements, based on geographical origin (flame/frost/poison/sound/electricity/radiation/darkness).  A healer class, Ritualist, would invoke incantations, and have an innate secondary gathering/crafting skill, Verdancy, (supernatural herbalist/apothecary).

4. Economy that incorporates real world money that players can spend, wager and recieve.  Say you aquire the Ephemeral Crown, the legendary first curio forged for the last monarch of Nibiru.  It unlocks all the Nibirian class abilites for any species and allows for the control of a dragon companion.  It was hard to get that crown.  Harder than beating the first Ninja Gaiden on the NES back in the day.  Harder than anything I've ever played... You always have to option to keep it, but you could put it on Auction for some real coin, of which the auction fees will take about half of the profits. You could also sell it for in game money with reduced bartering tariffs.  You could also always add some real cash to your account and up the ante on those pvp late nighters, or timed instance runs.

5. Rich cinematic experience with Oculus Rift.

6. The game will be hard, but rewarding.  The group experience will be crafted to emphasize teamwork, whether a team of two, or a mob of ten.

I have thought about kickstarting the entire idea for the MMO, but with the features I want to implement, and the quality I want to produce it with, it will take a couple hundred million dollars to implement, I'm sure.  For now I'm focusing on media that establishes the lore.
