Graphic Design/Illustration entry for the Chrysler "Style Shifters Contest."
As a semi-finalist in the Chrysler "Style Shifters Contest," I was invited to create a design that would celebrate a collaborative project between Chrysler and the great fashon designer John Varvatos: the 2013 Chrysler 300c John Varvatos Limited Edition.
Inspired by Varvatos' dark palette and the sleek profile of the car, I decided to try an understated approach, paring the image down to just one wheel and the windswept top. Varvatos' collection shows a wonderful combination of roughness and refinement, and I wanted to capture that too. Though I tend to work traditionally, I thought this project needed a more modern touch, so after experimenting with different brushstrokes and textures (and a lot of ink) I scanned my favorites and assembled the pieces digitally.
The design is intended to be printed on a t-shirt or tote bag. Shown here with the John Varvatos logo, I imagine it also printed with the Chrysler logo on the opposite side of the shirt or bag.
