Spider-Man: Homecoming GFX/VFX

After Effects
Cantina’s VFX team, led by Venti Hristova and Stephen Lawes, worked with Production VFX Supervisor Janek Sirrs and Director Jon Watts to create over 200 shots for Spider-Man: Homecoming. In 3-1/2 months Cantina assembled a talented team of artists to produce a variety of HUD graphics, holograms and monitor designs.

One of the most exciting challenges was creating a HUD for Spider-Man that could be both unique to the character and live within the MCU. Our approach combined the design aesthetics of the suit with a nod to Tony Stark tech. Our initial conversations with Jon and Janek led us to consider and incorporate Spider-Man's age into the HUD design. At the beginning of the film, Spider-Man’s v1.0 HUD echoed this decision and resulted in a more playful design overall. Once the 'training wheels' protocol was removed, the HUD transitioned into its more complex and sophisticated v2.0.

We faced similar challenges designing and animating Spider-Man’s tracking hologram, Vulture’s HUD, and a variety of screen graphics. These had to fit within the film’s design language and convey specific story points.
