EURO 2024 Germany Logo Proposal
THE BRIEF
“Aim, shoot, score: Your 2024 application logo”
Large sporting events like the European Football Championship (UEFA) always create a huge sense of euphoria and excitement within the host country. They build social momentum and create common ground to celebrate that goes far beyond a mere sporting event. Germany wants to become the host of the UEFA EURO 2024 and once again bring people together for a peaceful and inspiring celebration in the heart of Europe – and is asking you to develop an inspiring logo for its application.
THE CONCEPT
Soccer becomes vehicle of passion, excitement and unity under the colors of Germany as host for 2024.
For the upcoming European Football Championship I created a logo that starts at the base of the design with a spark carrying the colors of the german flag, which takes the shape of an open hand. The same colors, like in a wave, separate to take new forms: first a jumping heart, red, which inspires enthusiasm and passion, then the yellow color forms a second hand, mirror and complement to the first one that with it makes an embrace, conveying a sense of unity and togetherness; finally the third color, black, condense in the iconic pentagons of the soccer ball, right in the middle of the embrace, highlighting how soccer inspires our excitement and brings us together.
THE PROCESS
At first I sketched the basic design with pencil on paper. Then I started working at the digital version from the hand at the bottom, inspired by the image of a spark, defining it with the german colors. Then I worked on the second hand to create a circle and realized that I preferred leaving it with a simple yellow silhouette, in order to keep the logo fresh. I also had the idea of breaking the colors into different elements, completing the design with the red jumping heart and the black hexagons for the soccer ball.
Personally I believe this logo embodies the values of the UEFA without being obvious.
It suggests excitement and dynamism in the shapes without showing classic silhouettes of soccer players running, it portrays a soccer ball within the simplicity of three hexagons and it expresses unity without depicting small people exulting together.
