1. Boston, MA - The gold and white lines represent a mast and sail since Boston was historically a prominent port town. The design of the sail is inspired from the Zakim bridge that passes over the Charles river. The sun/star on the right signifies Boston as the "Hub of the Universe" one of Boston's nicknames. The star has 23 points which represent the 23 neighborhoods that make up Boston Proper.

2. New York City, NY - I liked that they kept the Dutch colony flag colors and decided to keep them as well. My new seal is a 5 pointed star with 3 layers of stars within it. The 5 points represent the 5 boroughs that make up NYC. The outer circle shows the connection each borough has with one another. The multiple layers of stars represent the many generations that have come through NYC. The red center recognizes those that have given up their lives for the price of freedom.

3. Philadelphia, PA - First off congratulations to the Eagles. The original Philly flag is based off the Swedish flag since they were the original colonizers of the area before the Dutch/English took over. I took the same colors but decided to create a triangle shape to better represent the two rivers that flow on either side of the city. Of course I've added the most famous icon of the city, the Liberty Bell. Although, maybe I should add an eagle perched atop...

4. Baltimore, MD - Maryland and Baltimore's flags are just so much fun. The checkered pattern is unique and easily recognized so of course I didn't change that. The seal featuring the rocket ship...ahem, I mean the Battle Monument just didn't look right. First I made sure that the plaque fit better with the grid of the checkered background. Rather than featuring the monument I decided to take 2 symbols that are featured in the woman's hands, the laurel wreath and the ship rudder. The rudder is difficult to display as a recognizable flat object so I opted for the ship wheel instead.

5. Charlotte, NC - I colors used in the saltire and background are taken from the Mecklenburg Germany flag which the county Charlotte resides in is named after. I replaced the seal with the coronation crown which is used by the Charlotte government officials.

6. Atlanta, GA - Atlanta was founded at the intersection of 2 railways that connected the east with the early west. I decided to embrace that historical fact by having 2 railways meet at a sun/star at the center of the flag. The decision to use red and white as colors was based on the fact that most of Atlanta's professional sports teams use them. Also Coca-Cola is headquartered in Atlanta, which also uses red and white as it's primary colors.

7. Jacksonville, FL - Just so you know the original Jacksonville flag was ranked the second best in Florida. I decided to simplify things and went with a sun with 7 rays centered on the flag. The 7 rays represent Andrew Jackson (7th president of the US) who the city is named after.

8. Miami, FL -  Like everyone else I thought the Miami flag was using India's flag. In my design I strayed away from 80's pink and used the colors green, orange, and white that are seen in the original flag. The center icon is a single palm branch which is prominent in the City.

9. Nashville, TN - I took the compass rose from the seal and removed the rest of the seal on the inside. The six bars represent the strings on a guitar since Nashville is known as "Music City".

10. Louisville, KY - The Fleur-de-lis remains on the center of the of the flag and signifies Louisville's french origins. The 4 bars represent the "Falls of Ohio" which the city of Louisville was built along.
11. Cleveland, OH - The blue represents Lake Erie which the city rests upon. The black represents the land and cities strong industrial past. The white star represents unity and a bright future.
12. Detroit, MI - The blue columns represent Lake Erie and Lake Huron. Detroit is located on part of the connection between the lakes. The wheel in the center represents Detroit's automotive history. The sun in the center of the wheel represents the progress of the city towards a brighter future.
