The girl with no skin

Autobiographical account- drawing together collection of 20-30 minute doodles
Gily was born with no skin.
She seemed particularly porous. She did not understand why.
Growing up, Gily felt that she was disappearing.
She was frightened of light.
" I want to be found."
' I want to be seen.'
She longed for love.
But the fire of passion was terrfying, when you had no skin.
Gily had a nightmare:  "Will I ever love again?''
Gily missed aunt Aibileen.
Aunt Aibileen had always seen her goodness.
In her presence Gily could just be.

No coming, no going
No after, no before
I hold you close to me
I release you to be so free
Because I am in you
and you are in me.

She remembered,
Aunt Aibileen sang to her: "...that a hero lies in you."
One day, Gily saw that there were others with no skin.
They understand.
Gily made Friend. and Friends.
She is learning to say goodbye without burning.
Learning to hug herself.
and to dance.
" Gily, have you heard of the ugly duckling story?
I wish for you a world where we are never too much, too intense, too emotional, too porous, too big, too strange, too dramatic, ... too gifted."

" I want to think again of dangerous and noble things.
I want to be light and frolicsome.
I want to be improbable and beautiful and afraid of nothing as though
I had wings."
