NATIVE BIRDS
These illustrations are a part of a series that depict iconic Australian birds in a style that I have developed, the clean vector lines with the intricate detailing and the neon bright contrasting colour schemes allow the viewer to re-examine what may be a daily sight.

THE BRIEF
For the QUT’s Visual Media and Interactive exhibition Departures15 we were asked to showcase a body of work that highlights our design aesthetic with an accompanying website and printed takeaway materials. I submitted two A0 posters with my portfolio site displayed underneath on an Ipad and takeaway postcards.
THE AESTHETIC
The aesthetic properties are an abstraction of the natural textures and details that embody the composition of these birds, the clean line work and minimal colouring highlight the plumage and flow of the feathers. This style quickly becomes convoluted unless displayed on a single colour or two toned gradient.
The colouring of the subjects is deliberately kept neutral in order to highlight the line work and to juxtapose the foreground and background elements, there is a slight gradation of colour to create shadowing and to differentiate components of the birds.
