Paradise of Maitreya - ROM poster drawing

In this assignment, we were to research and choose a piece from the ROM, and then render it into a 'poster' that could advertise said piece, museum, and show cultural images.

Materials: iPhone (for photos), tracing papers, Canson mi-tientes paper, graphite pencils, Micron ink pens (005-08), colouring pencils, and Prismacolour markers.

My creative process began as soon as we got into the ROM. Going into my first exhibit (China), I knew this was the exhibit I wanted to do. I had a Chinese Guardian Lion in mind going in, but was drawn to the large mural along the back wall. I saw every exhibit in the ROM that day, and I left wanting to do China, but Greece was a close second. I was very much drawn to the fine details of this image and the colours. I went home and found as much information about "The Paradise of Maitreya" I could find, and decided to stick with it.
The original 'Paradise of Maitreya', displayed at the ROM in Toronto, ON.
I found the colours I was going to use and created a colour grid.
