2020 TOKYO OLYMPICS
Conceptual Invitation Design
A lot can be said within a simple circle
For #CokeXAdobeXYou.
Coca-Cola has invited us to create a work of art
combining Coca-Cola and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Right away I knew I wanted to design a conceptual invitation card for the Olympics. I began by reorganizing the five rings of the Olympics into an accordion fold invitation, where the five rings can overlap each other and become one circle.

Then I apply symbolism into each layer:
Layer 1 – Tokyo/2020, The cover for the invitation with the iconic red circle.
Layer 2 – Crane/Mice, red-crowned crane is a symbol of luck, longevity, and fidelity
In Japan, the red patch on top of its head also echoes back with the red circle theme. I also added in mice in this layer, mice is the first in the Chinese zodiac calendar and just so happens 2020 is the year of mice.
Layer 3 to 5 are sports in the Olympics: Athletics, Aquatics, and lastly Judo, a martial art originated in japan. The two judokas bowing to each other is also such an iconic gesture among the Japanese culture. I wanted this last layer to be a symbol of honor and respect, much like the Olympics itself.

The accordion fold invitation can be look at separately, or it can be folded and look at all of the layers overlapping each other, creating a complex pattern. Yet all the layers fit perfectly into a simple circle.

Thank You
And thank you Coca-Cola and Adobe for putting this event together,
I had a lot of fun creating this design.
