Conceptualize and design an original typeface.

My love of architecture and typography helped conceive my concept for an original typeface. My objective was to to create an official typeface for Washington, D.C. This was achieved by fusing the roman style letter carvings to a new and modern level. The formation of the letterforms was referenced by two divergent typefaces: Caslon and Optima. Despite the significant differences in these two typefaces, I was able to successfully merge Caslon’s historical qualities and serifs with Optima’s modern stroke weight and proportions. The marriage of these characteristics gave birth to Arlington.
